Change comes in all forms (in this case, very small)

I bought a hat today...a Philadelphia Eagles hat to be precise.

My hair is long...but it's gotten to the point where there's volume to it.

I'm both cleansing and exfoliating the morning...quite refreshing. Next, gotta get my hands on toner and moisturizer. Actually, I have the latter, but I want to see what else is out there.

School is beating me with a rubber hose. If I wasn't such an intellect, I'd go get drunk. If I wasn't religious, I'd go get laid.

While I'm still thinking about Ireland, I'm thinking about maybe traveling instead...villa in southern France sounds particularily appealing.

Too tired to make a really compelling entry.

Perhaps I have a word for you...metro! Just kidding.

I'd choose France...even though I'm French (norman to be precise)- English on my dad's side and Irish on my mom's side...I think I'd go with my name's sake and go to France. Plus they have the Mediterranean life and wine!

Poor Jaime, but I agree with you. I'd rather go ANYWHERE but France. In fact, on my list of places I want to see and go before I die, France and China both rank dead last (they are tied for last)! Dusty knows this, but I think I will probably end up seeing France before any of the other places I want to see, just because he likes it!

Jaime think about our last name a little, and then think about a particular town in France that has the same name. Also look at the history of people with our last name in English history. They came over as French Normans in 1066 when the Normans conquored England (we are always on the winning side forever changing English history and royalty). So, even though our more immediate ancestors come from England, they got there by way of France. You can even turn to modern Enlish royalty to see our name sake as continuing proof of this.

Why do you people hate France so much? France has been a great bastion of liberal democracy for many years. Just because they oppose going into a war for which the justifications were lies?

No, Because I have never, no, NEVER liked France. I have never, even as a child ever wanted to see France or learn about it or anything like that. Mine is just the way I am...current politics(or past for that matter), have nothing to do with my feelings of said country.

To Jaime...yes, you are French. Technically.

To Jaime and Dusty...technically, you're Normans, which as you no are basically French-speaking Vikings.

To Daniel...since when has France been a "bastion of liberal democracy?" They're on what, the 5th or 6th Republic (with 2 empires thrown into the fray)? What about the Reign of Terror...that was a nice way to kick off democracy. And mind you, France also asked us to use nuclear weapons on Vietnam. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a pathological France hater (heck, I took French and I wouldn't mind seeing parts of it), but yeah, just by opposing U.S. policy/actions doesn't make them a great nation.

Adam,
Many, MANY thanks for all the help you and your father gaev yesterday! It was appreciated more than I can put into words, and since I've never been all that good at describing things, I'll leave it at that! But know that you have my heartfelt thanks, and maybe now, I'll have to have you guys over for a meal! Although I am sure - no, KNOW that it will in no way compare to your parents meals!

I had typed a comment towards our Frenchness (?) the other day, however, my computer has once again eaten my postings so I'll ask my question again. Earlier Mike stated that we are French and it would be easy to figure out hence the town/city Lyon in France. However, my question is what this tells us about the Lyon towns here in the United States? As far as I know none of our ancestors founded any towns and I assume that means there must be other lyon branches which leads me to want to know about how we get our last name. Now I understand that most families recieved their name by their occupation. What does that mean about our ancestors? They were in the circus, tamed a lion, mean, growled a lot?? Really why did we name ourselves lyons? That's an absurd name when you stop to think about it. I can't wait until I get married and maybe I'll just marry a smith or something! :)

The towns here in the US are probably so named from French people that came over to America from France who had originally lived in Lyon, France. This is how we got towns such as Salem, "New" London, "New" York, Pella, etc.

As for the reason we have our name. Who knows, it could have royal connections, knightly connections, or whatnot. And getting a last name based on occupation isn't all that common. It is more common to find people with last names that had originally related to who their father was or from where they came (ex. Jesus of Nazareth. Nazareth would be a the best answer we have to a last name for Jesus especially since Christ is a title).

It could also be based on the impression we want people to get from us. A name like ours gives the empression of importance, or leadership (at least in history when family names meant a lot more). It could also be based on a first name such as one's father. In our case the name could have been Leo.

It could also be based on mythology and the stories and characters there. One could take on a last name in order to take on the "character" of a particular mythological figure. It could also be based on the stars and the Leo constellation.
