Part of something cool (I'd say "special," but that just sounded to cheesy)

Old news for some, new news for others, but I am now one of Dusty's groomsmen (the ever enigmatic and mysterious Fourth Man). Tis a great honor, and I look forward to it. First time in a tux too...

In local news, there's been a heavy downpour of doom lately, which coincides with an approaching Midterm. Despite continued preparations, one local official was quoted as saying, "the crap is gonna hit the fan on this one."

Someone needs to buy a bottle of Arbor Mist for next Friday. Let me rephrase, I shall give them money to buy said beverage.

And Matthew just made brownies, and they're delicious.

Ah...books

Went to a used bookstore with Daniel today. Picked up two interesting books for under $10. There was this really nice copy of Crime and Punishment, and I would've spent the $50 on it, but...it had illustrations. And, being the purist that I am (am I purist? in this case yes), I just couldn't buy it. What adds insult to the injury is that it was a challenge to find it...on the bottom shelf, right on the end, with a heavy box in front of it...how sad it was to finally pick it up only to be greeted with full page images scattered throughout the book. For those not so discriminating, this bookstore is on Nicollet Mall, between 9th and 10th Ave. The only other disapointing aspect was that there were not works of Twain. There was a set of plays by Marlowe, but no Jew of Malta, which is what I want to read. Nor was there Kyd's Spanish Tragedy. Don't want to sound like a whiner, but that's what I've been searching for, and I don't want to forget (writing helps to remember).

In sum, I must say, used bookstores are the neatest places on earth. Words can't describe it.

Oh, and I got a few pens and handbag (all for free), at the Writing Center Conference that I attended. Score for Adam!

Change comes in all forms (in this case, very small)

I bought a hat today...a Philadelphia Eagles hat to be precise.

My hair is long...but it's gotten to the point where there's volume to it.

I'm both cleansing and exfoliating the morning...quite refreshing. Next, gotta get my hands on toner and moisturizer. Actually, I have the latter, but I want to see what else is out there.

School is beating me with a rubber hose. If I wasn't such an intellect, I'd go get drunk. If I wasn't religious, I'd go get laid.

While I'm still thinking about Ireland, I'm thinking about maybe traveling instead...villa in southern France sounds particularily appealing.

Too tired to make a really compelling entry.

Resarch Idea revised

I'm focusing on AP/CIS classes in high school, and whether or not they are making students write at a college level, as well as the student's perceptions of what they think to be a "college paper." It will be focused on courses in the Social Sciences, as it seems that many people in the history department are increasingly frustrated because undergrads don’t know how to write history papers e.g. having a broad thesis, don’t realize that these are empirical papers, etc.

Pre-lim testing options:
-interviews
-surveys

The tentative title is:
"But I get A's in English!: Writing in the Social Sciences"

If I come up with anything else, I'll post.

The end is near (academically)

Place your bets ladies and gents!

Can Adam finish an 8 page paper on the French Revolution by Thursday?? What twists could there be? No less than having to use footnotes instead of the much more sensible in-text citations!*

Stay tuned!

*I do realize that yes, footnotes are important and that they have their place. However, this assignment entails using just 2 short articles she handed out in class...hardly worth the time.

Other academic updates:
I'm begining to hate History of Modern France. I have a bad feeling that this class is going to bite me in the ass come the end of the semester (forgive me for swearing, but it rhymed so well).

Ireland it is for the summer session. Now I have to raise $8000.

Research is so cool....I might make a career of it. We have to do a research project for the Writing Center, and while I'm at the idea stage, this prospect thrills me. Oh, I'm toying with the idea of college writing in high school e.g. AP or CIS classes, and how students in said courses feel about "college writing." I put that in quotes because I'm interested in finding out what they consdier college writing to be. Also, what influences that, how they rate their own work, etc. Plus, I'd be focusing on writing outside of the English discipline. So, any suggestions on how to narrow this topic would be appreciated.
